Hurricane Season 2014 - Are You Ready?

The 2014 Hurricane Season began June 1 and will run through November 30. While Meteorologists have declared 2014 a light season for the Southeast, that is by no means an excuse to be unprepared. With 6 counties bordering the Atlantic Ocean, South Carolina is one of nation's most vulnerable to hurricanes and tropical storms.


Knowing how to prepare for a hurricane saves lives. If an evacuation order is issued, please heed the warning. No home, boat
, or hurricane party is worth your life, or the life of your loved ones. Pay close attention to warnings; listen to the radio and watch your local TV stations for weather alerts. Have a plan and follow it.

If you do have to evacuate, make sure to alert at least one member of your family, or a close friend of your travel plans. If possible, stay with family or friends living closer inland, instead of going to a shelter. Fill your gas tank prior to the evacuation order, take important papers, as well as cash (in the event ATMs are down due to power outage), a gallon or two of water, and some nonperishable food with you in the event of lenthy evacuation times due to heavy traffic.
